Clarissa walked into the library and smiled at the elderly librarian, who she was pretty sure was half deaf and blind by now. But she wasn't here to socialize with the librarian, and so she continued away from the main entrance and through a few turns between bookcases until she made it to the most hidden of the tables in the library, which was Clarissa's personal favorite spot in the library. It was perfectly hidden from any wandering eye, and secluded enough that nobody would likely wander by to interrupt whatever studying or other things that she would be doing.
She sat down on the edge of the table, lightly swinging her legs as she whistled a faint tune to herself. She had been assigned to one of the first Charms student presentations, this time working with Sirius Black. Apparently the professor had been talking too much with the Muggle Studies professor, since the class had been assured, that student presentations 'were a new and growing trend in the educational realm'. Clarissa thought it was just another way to make the students have more homework.
At the thought of her study partner, Clarissa blushed out of habit. When the assignments had been made in class, she had heard Lily giggling and knew that her best friend was teasing her again. And just as she had expected, as soon as they were able to speak to each other again, Lily had teased her about the pairing the entire walk to the Great Hall for lunch, where they had separated to their individual house tables.
Growing impatient and bored with waiting, Clarissa laid back on the table, still swinging her legs. She let her hands playfully trace patterns over her shirt while still whistling aimlessly to herself. She trusted herself to hear when Sirius was approaching, otherwise this could look quite suggestive, when she was merely bored and entertaining herself.

Since Charms class that morning, Sirius had been in a rather grumpy mood. There was something about working with other people, pretty or not, that made him ill. Expectation were usually set too high by the other person and when it came to his work ethic, he preferred expectation to remain low so there was no room for disappointment.
He grabbed his mail carrier style leather bag from the common room couch and slung it over his head to rest on his shoulder as he darted out of the portrait hole. He knew he was late. He figured five or ten minutes at the most, but to be frank, he hadn't tried to get to the library on time. Again, low expectations. If he showed up early this time, Clarissa would probably expect him to continue doing so. He didn't want her to give her hopes up. Especially not when they had to work on this project for another two weeks.
Taking three secret passageways to the floor the library was on, Sirius weaved around students, ducking behind them when he saw a girl he'd forgotten to owl or a girl he'd offended during one night of attempted passion. There were things he'd rather forget and those girls were some of them.
He tread softly once he reached the library. The librarian gave him a look of distaste and he raised a hand to wave at her, though when she rolled her eyes and turned he did the same, though with a goofy smile plastered on his face.
He glanced around the room and when he didn't see Clarissa, remembered the note she'd given him at the end of class. He pulled it out of his pocket. 'I'll be in the back right corner of the library. You can't miss me.' He pulled his bottom lip in with his front teeth and started through the library again until he reached said corner. It was dark and cool, a stark contrast to the sweltering heat outside.
It took one more slow glance around the room before he spotted her, not in a chair, but lounging on a table, swinging her legs like a child floating in a cool lake. A relaxed grin came to his lips at the sight. He rarely saw Clarissa Knightley so at ease, so at peace with the world. Usually a scowl contorted her features giving her the air of superiority he only saw when faced by his mother. He shook his head to clear that thought. Comparing her to his mother was not at all wise, especially when he would have to linger in her presence for hours on end.
As quietly as he could, he removed his bag from his shoulders and walked to her side.
"Daydreaming already Clarissa?" He said standing over her so that his face was in full shadow. "Had I known I would awaken you from your beauty sleep I would have stayed in Gryffindor tower." He crossed his arms over his chest and tried to feign contempt, yet failed miserably. A wide grin crept upward to his lips.
"Well, come along. Let's not waste any more time putting off this 'exciting' project," he said, being sarcastic. He went to retrieve his things and walked back to her side.

Clarissa jumped up startled as she heard Sirius' voice from close by. And at his words, a frown crossed her face. "I was not daydreaming, Sirius. I was merely keeping myself entertained while waiting for the delinquent who I have the misfortune of being partnered with. That's all." Clarissa was almost tempted into sticking out her tongue indignantly, but realized at the last moment that such an action had become juvenile once past the third year. At the grin on his face, she shook her head. "Oh shove off it, Black."
So rather than continue grumbling about Sirius sneaking up on her and then trying to embarrass her, Clarissa slid off the table and moved to push her books farther down to where she could sit and both study the books and finish the group portion of their project. Even though he was highly abrasive, Clarissa couldn't help but laugh slightly at Sirius' sarcasm in calling the project 'exciting'. To be honest, it sounded more like something that a first year would do for an Introductory course, rather than a seventh year with N.E.W.T.s to study and prepare for.
"Oh yes, our overly stimulating group project. I swear the professor should have his head examined. Or maybe someone has put him under an Imperius Curse, because he was never this boring. And trust me, he's my HOH." Clarissa shook her head as she sort of rambled away while pulling out the parchment and quill and ink to start with the preliminary outlines and research for their project. "So have any ideas for our project?" Clarissa turned back to Sirius with a smile. The least she could do was to be friendly. Couldn't hurt anyone, right?
