Tom Riddle opened the door to his new classroom. The air tasted control, and he liked it. Defence against dark arts had not so surprisingly been one of his favourite subjects, and he looked forward to devoting time for that now. He knew it had to be done, all the hard work with... recruiting forces, but that knowledge didn't make it any less demanding. Now he had some excuse to not think so much about it. His first class was with the seventh years. They would probably be the most trying, but they were the ones who interested them the most.
a) The seventh year was of course the most interesting, talking about the studies, and b) they were grown up. A lot of them probably already knew what they wanted, and Tom could help some of them. The head boy and girl interested him too. He had been one once, and he was doing great things. He'd been informed they were Gryffindors, and that kind of disappointed him but still, it didn't mean that they were completely hopeless, did it?
He walked up to his desk and let his fingertips brush over the wood. Tom was pretty sure that it was the same desk as it had been when he was one of the students. He had always and would always love everything about that castle, his home. He flicked his wand at the door and let the students enter.

James made his way to his first glass . . . D.A.D.A. He loved this class. James wanted to be an Auror, like his father had been in his day. It was also a class he excelled at. He entered the class (he was NEVER late for this class) and walked in, sitting at his seat in the middle of the glass. His Head Boy and Quidditch Captain Badge gleamed slightly in the light as he leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his hair. He looked at the teacher, noticing that he was the new one that they had been introduced to.
James recognized him as an old Head Boy, having seen his badge in the Trophy room quite a few times for Detention. He had also been awarded a Special Honors metal for the school. He tilted his head slightly to the side, his hazel eyes analyzing him. Something was . . . different about this teacher. What was his name again? Tom Riddle . . . that was a weird name. “Do we have to call you Professor Riddle, or is Tom okay?” he asked, raising a brow. He was trying to determine whether or not he was someone to respect or annoy the hell out of him. James couldn’t read him, and he didn’t like that.

So that was the head boy? Either he had a lousy sense of humour, or they didn't have really high standards for the position any more. "Guess wrong and I might give you detention" Tom answered the boy lightly. Prejudices aside, he didn't have to be just another obnoxious Gryffindor. He'd give him a chance. "I hope you haven't forgotten everything during the summer", he said as he waited for the rest of the class to seat, "Today you'll demonstrate how far you've come"
He gazed out over the class. Tom recognized a few faces from certain business meetings with their parents. "So this is the future" he thought. It wasn't that bad, it looked good this far. "I have expectations" he added. He said and sat down on his chair by the desk. "Come up to me, cast a spell, and say you're name so I can put you up on the presence list" He said and leaned back, "Who goes first?"

"Guess wrong and I might give you detention"
He smirked slightly at the answer. This teacher seemed like he’d be alright . . . except for the bad vibe. “Lucky for me that Detention isn’t something new, Sir. Dunno what your expectations are from the Head Boy, but don’t think it’ll be a good one. I don’t much care for rules.” he said. He watched as the teacher sat behind his desk. His eyes narrowed slightly as he tried to figure him out. It was frustrating him that he couldn’t. He hated it.
"I hope you haven't forgotten everything during the summer. Today you'll demonstrate how far you've come. I have expectations."
He raised a brow slightly. “I might be a trouble maker, but I’m no slacker.” he said. He really didn’t care what expectations he had of them. That meant little to James. He listened as the teacher told the class what they were to do. He pushed his chair back, getting up and walking up to the teacher’s desk, standing in front of them. “Which spell would you like to see, Professor?” he asked. James was highly advanced when it came to wand working. He’d literally slept his way through Hogwarts when it came to the classes, preferring to waste his smarts away on pranking. His hazel eyes stared straight at Tom’s dark ones, never wavering . . . almost challenging him. It didn’t matter to James that his teacher was a past Slytherin. After all, James respected his Teachers . . . most of the time.

Clarissa entered the DADA classroom just in time to keep from being late. It was actually one of her favorite classes (as was to be expected from a future Auror, as she hoped to be). When she noticed the professor, she tilted her head in slight confusion. He looked familiar, and then it hit her. He was a former student, having graduated not long ago. It was a little disconcerting to think that one of her classmates of only a little time ago was now her professor. But c'est la vie. Things wouldn't fall apart.
And when he stated that they would be doing a review of things that they already knew for the first lesson, Clarissa smiled. Today would be an easy class then. Because in some areas of DADA, she was already farther ahead of the class than they were likely to get while still at Hogwarts. But of course she wasn't going to brag about having passed the beginning level Auror safety and combat classes. That wasn't her personality. Instead she grinned at James standing up to demonstrate first. Of course he would do such a thing, as he likely thought of it as a sort of unspoken challenge.
